Last month, I and many of my friends filed a complaint with Facebook against an aggressively anti-Christian Facebook page titled “Virgin Mary Should’ve Aborted”. Each of us received the following standardized response:
“Thank you for taking the time to report something that you feel may violate our Community Standards. Reports like yours are an important part of making Facebook a safe and welcoming environment. We reviewed the page you reported for containing hate speech or symbols and found it doesn’t violate our community standard on hate speech.”
Also not hate speech is the page "F**k Jesus Christ and F**k Christianity." And pages making light of rape. Because rape is funny, I guess.
So I posted this on Facebook:
And included this:
I may get kicked off of Facebook for this, but I will take my chance. According to Facebook, a page called "Virgin Mary Should've Aborted" and one called "F**k Jesus Christ and F**k Christianity" are not hate speech sites. Nor are sites that make light of rape and pedophilia, But according to Facebook community standards, breastfeeding mothers are.
This is a picture I took back in August 2010 regarding a public "nurse-in" that a number of breastfeeding moms held in front of a Cost Plus store in protest of another mom who had been asked to leave for feeding her infant in such a manner. Hope you're not offended; frankly, after what we saw Miley Cyrus provide as "entertainment," I am hard pressed to understand what makes a picture like this "offensive." I happen to think it is beautiful.
Feel free to share.
Keep fighting the good fight, folks!
