Yesterday I spent about 7 hours at Anime Southeast with my kids, both of whom love anime and manga. I was fascinated by the attendees who were "cosplaying" - costumed play, and the efforts they put into their costumes. Think about it - are not Civil War reenactors simply cosplaying another theme?
A gal working the coffee bar in the lobby of the Sevierville Events Center was loudly stating she did not understand all this, because "you can't make any money from doing this." She is likely right, but I know fellows who will fish for hours under catch-and-release, coming home with no fish, but peace of mind. Because it is fun. Because it allows a creative outlet. Because it allows some escape for a while.
Which sometimes we need to retain sanity.
THE latest twist in the sickening saga of paedophile Catholic priest James Martin Donaghy – currently serving a ten-year jail sentence for 17 sex offences in Northern Ireland – took place last week when Donaghy was sentenced to another two years after pleading guilty to four more charges relating to a boy of seven.
Belfast Crown Court heard that the boy was distraught over the possibility of his dead grandfather being trapped in purgatory, but that 55-year-old Donaghy told him that, in exchange for sex, he could get his granddad’s soul into heaven.
I think I would like to cosplay a special character. He/she would be a cross between The Blue Exorcist and Abraham Van Helsing. The character would serve to rid the Earth of scum like Jame Donaghy and cleanse Holy Mother Church. Not sure if this character would actually kill the perpetrators or seek to redeem their souls. Hmmm . . .
I am sorry. I can hardly stomach a pedophile telling his/her victim that they love them, but when you see this perverse form of simony, it is truly sickening.
