Seriously?

Rep. Todd Akin, the GOP Senate candidate in Missouri, set off a firestorm today after claiming that women who are victims of “legitimate rape” don’t usually become pregnant because “the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.” 

Conservatives are asking him to step down.  Ya think?  Because let me tell you, but that statement alone, I am pretty damn sure he is a mental defective.  Eeee-yo, soft in the 'head, 'e is.

By the way, the mother of my first husband was a rape victim at 15, by a local man who was never charged.  She became pregnant.  They brought pressure on her to place the baby for adoption.  She refused, saying it was her baby and she would not abandon it.  Her family did not abandon her.  She and her first son had one of the closest relationships I ever knew and they loved each other dearly.  Sometimes these stories DO have a happy ending.
