From the lovely Ellen Hirota, of Cheap Date fame - her father, Dr. Tomio Hirota. I thought he had one of those lodge hats that Fred and Barney wore on "The Flintstones" on his head. From what I hear from all his kids, he was an extremely funny and great Dad.
Sad Old Goth posted this one: in 1934, Petey - the dog from the Little Rascals "Our Gang" films - made a publicity appearance in Atlantic City and his dad had his picture taken with the famed canine!
My turn - this is Dad at a party in the late 50's. Neither of these women is my mother.
Flyboy! Melissa in Texas sends me this one of her Dad, Maj. Ray Walker. Vietnam veteran!
Wollf sent me this of his father, the Sergeant Major, posing in 1942 with a picture of a future President. Smaj was in three wars - WWII, Korea, and Vietnam - that qualifies him as a bad ass.
Looking like the last of the red hot lover boys is Goth Guy's Dad. That's a subtle, but killer, smile in that man's high school graduation picture.
The Gem of the Ocean sent me this - after serving in the Army Air Force, as it was then known, her father Edward joined the Navy Reserve. Although he was enlisted, he outranked the other boots due to his prior service, so they had him pose with the sword (which he is doing so dashingly here) in group pics.
Elvis Vincent's dad used his USMC dress blues to catch the ladies' eye - and it worked with one with whom, this summer, he will be married for 60 years!
Justina is proud that her father is never too old to have fun and laugh at life, even if he is the butt of the joke.
Dude (aka Mariana) sent me this one of her Dad showing the love to his unborn child still in utero . . . which happens to be Mariana. From 1961, this qualifies as epic.
One last one - my own great-grandfather, Henry Sears. Because nothing says bad ass more for a casual picture than to make that face and pick up a raccoon.
Happy Fathers Day to all the men who deserve that honor!

Dad had that sword for a while too. I can remember once when I was about 4 he was going getting ready for some Memorial or Veteran's day parade and him putting that sword on!
