Diocese of Orange Renames the Crystal Cathedral

To "Christ Cathedral."

Well, it's succinct.  I mean, it's okay, but it is very close to the original name.  Perhaps that is intentional, so that when people try to Google the Crystal Cathedral, the Christ Cathedral will be suggested by the search engine.  Interesting that before the purchase of the Chrystal Cathedral, the intended name was Christ Our Savior.

The new vicar for the cathedral will be Fr. Christopher Smith.  I was a parishioner for about ten years with him as my pastor at St. Joseph Church.  Although I heard things about him after the fact that concern me, he baptized both of my babies and overall I know him to be a good priest.  Best of luck to him; he is a good choice for the public face of the new cathedral.

Me?  I don't know.  Any name is fine - it is really the diocese in action that counts.  But I do like one comment in the local newspaper who suggested:  "How about "the Cathedral formerly known as the Crystal Cathedral" or perhaps "the Garden Grove Cathedral of Los Angeles".  After all, that's more of an Orange County tradition, eh Angel fans?
