I don't really give a shit!
I am sorry, I just love a good, meaningless politically outraged chant.
At least one campus police officer pepper-sprayed a crowd protesting outside a board of trustees meeting at Santa Monica College Tuesday night, according to witnesses.
Roughly 200 students were involved in the demonstration, and 12 were allowed in the boardroom. No arrests were made.
They were hoping to get into the trustee’s meeting because they were slated to discuss a controversial tiered payment program, which has drawn the ire of students and professors claiming that the plan would make in-demand summer classes -- like English, math, history and biology -- staggeringly expensive.
The program in question would cost $180 per unit during the summer session, up from the usual $46 per unit. That means a high-demand 3-unit course would run about $540, more than most students pay for an entire semester in the fall or spring.
"This program, only a selective few can afford that," Chavez said. "What about the rest of us?"
Work. Get student loans. Work. Delay your education as you find . . . work.
California is facing one of its largest economic crises and the community college and state university funds have been decimated. Remember DREAM Act? Okay, so now you are in competition for subsidies with illegal aliens. It is not that hard to understand the economics - things cost, and there just is not the money to go around. You can scream that you have a right to free college . . . but when all that can be done is some official hands you a book and tells you to read it - hell, maybe not even that, maybe a PowerPoint presentation - then gives you a piece of paper with the word "degree" on it, and the piece of paper is utterly useless in the job market, don't whine - you got it for free and it is worth every penny you paid into it.
