Wait, didn't Kennedy have this same "problem"?

Although I was naught but a gleam in my Daddy's eye, as the saying goes, during the 1960 election, I have read how Kennedy faced a problem regarding his religion - that he would "take orders" from the Pope (after all, His Holiness called me just this morning and said, "Shteph, I vant you should essen less carbs . . .") and be guilty of LWC.  Legislating While Catholic.

The Democratic party pooh-poohed such an idea.  "Why, he's an American!" they proclaimed.  "Rome will not govern the United States!"

Rick Santorum - if not a traditionalist Catholic then seemingly one more devout than the late JFK (and the rest of his clan) - does not get such a pass.

Liberal journalists want you to be scared of Rick Santorum, but at times that involves misinterpreting his arguments and ignoring his written statements.

Rick Santorum is coming for your birth control,” proclaims the headline by liberal writer Irin Carmon. She warns darkly of a “contraception ban.” Libertarian lawyer Dan Mataconis makes this claim, too in a blog post titled “Rick Santorum Favors Making Birth Control Illegal.”

Of course!  Because he's Catholic and they don't believe in using birth control!

And yet . . . George W. Bush did not believe abortion was legal and even after eight years, babies are being murdered daily.

Religion-as-an-issue seems to be reserved for the GOP candidates, that somehow if they become President, the rule of law and legislation simply flies out the window and they are free to impose their personal beliefs upon the conduct of millions of Americans.  Which is laughable unless you consider Obama circumventing procedure and law to appoint directors of government boards without congressional scrutiny . . . and no one calls bullshit on him.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to run over to the rectory of my parish.  It's my turn to feed and water the murderous albino Opus Dei monk we have living in the cellar . . .

Joe Kennedy's money and political influence - even though he did take a heavy blow concerning his position regarding Hitler.
