Today's Shot

January 7, 2012, originally uploaded by Stephanie A. Richer.

I started a 365 project for 2012, where one takes a picture each day. I set some rules for myself: (1) don;t beat myself up if I cannot get a shot that day, and (2) use my iPhone whenever possible, to include processing the picture on my iPhone using various apps.

Today I was taking pictures for the diocese at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Knoxville, where our bishop, Bp. Richard Stika, was presiding over a Mass to honor couples joined in the Sacrament of Matrimony. Lovely, really - and for anyone who knows him, I am sure you will join me in saying that Bishop Stika is an absolute gem.

One tidbit: he and I were talking about the purchase of the Crystal Cathedral in Orange. He made a good point - all those modern churches, like Our Lady Queen of Angels in Los Angeles, lack because their architecture dates them. "Here," he said with a grin, "We're building them in a traditional style - so people know they're a Catholic church!"

Hey Digi,

I really think that the CC was purchased more for it's extensive cammpus and central OC location. I would not be surprised if the Diocese built a new cathedral at that location within 30 - 40 years.
