In Defense of Paula Deen and Why Tony Bourdain is a Hypocrite.

Paula Deen has Type II diabetes.

And now a lot of people, including celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain, is calling her a "hypocrite" for promoting butter-laden recipes which they claim led her to this stage in her life and countless other gullible and ignorant souls.

I think they are simply piling on Paula.  And unfairly at that.

I admit, I have not watched every single episode of any cooking show she did.  But I am quite sure that she never told people, "Listen, y'all, it's okay, butter ain't gonna hurt you, even if you consume the equivalent of two sticks a day, sugar!"  She told people to cook with butter - and oil, and other fats - because it makes it taste soooo good.

And ultimately, we are each responsible for our own health.  If you watched Paula Deen for the purpose of advice on nutrition . . . you may just be too stupid to live.  If I want nutrition advice, I would go to someone like Dr. Mehmet Oz, because there I would be getting sound medical advice and some sugar-free eye candy, if you catch my drift.

As for Anthony Bourdain . . . Tony, you are actually the hypocrite.  In your 2000 book, Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly, you wrote how you - as executive chef of the New York restaurant, Brasserie Les Halles, would receive orders for "no butter" from diners . . . and proceed to use as much butter as you wanted.  Remember?  You were the one who told us that was what restaurant food taste good and you ignored the requests of your patrons.

Hey, Tony - glad to see you got off drugs.  Now get off your high horse.

And if you are so concerned about the health of the nation, quit smoking, jackhole, on your television series.

My sentiments exactly! Bourdain recently stated on his show that he takes cholesterol medication, and yet I see no evidence of him making dietary changes or hitting the gym.
Paula Dean has her style of cooking. Anthony Bourdain has his style of eating.

No need to attack each other!
