A Democratic political candidate who once argued for “accurate” contraceptive sex education, and against traditional marriage and an abortion ban, has been tasked with explaining Catholic moral priorities in the voting booth for the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City.
“Despite what political pundits might say, Catholics cannot be lumped into the broad categories of liberal or conservative, nor should we be led astray by interest groups who demand that Catholics vote a particular way,” wrote Hill.
". . . nor should we be led astray by interest groups who demand that Catholics vote a particular way." I wonder if Ms. Hill considers the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, the teaching authority, to be naught but a "special interest" when it holds that abortion is intrinsically evil and a grave mortal sin? Yes, I am being facetious since her "100%" approval rating from Planned Parenthood and his past argumements against any ban of abortion answer that question.
But I have to ask - does she really consider issues like "affordable housing" and "abortion" to be on equal level? Or are some issues "more equal than others" and so a topic for which she has advocated before, e.g., gay marriage in the Church, actually merits more attention than abortion?
When asked about the apparent conflict last year, a spokesperson for the Diocese of Salt Lake City said they do not discuss “personnel issues,” but said that “Jean Hill is a practicing Catholic who is totally committed to the mission of the Church.”
So stop asking questions already!
