Sweet Emotions of high school music class - rest in peace, Mr. Tallarico

Picture of Victor Tallarico from my 1978 yearbook
Victor Tallarico, a lifelong musician and father of Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler, died this weekend at the age of 95 at the Hunt Community.
God rest the soul of Victor Tallarico, who died this past weekend, as I just learned.  Perhaps people will say, "Oh, he was Steve Tyler's father, the lead singer of Aerosmith," but that would be wrong - it is more appropriate to say Steve Tyler was the son of Victor Tallarico.
Besides being an accomplished musician, Mr. Tallarico was a dedicated and wonderful teacher, whose music class at Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx was a favorite of many.  I remember his classroom had posters of Bach, Beethoven . . . and Aerosmith, becaue he was inordinately proud of his son and loved him dearly.  He would play a classical piece for us in class and end with a flourish, turning from his bench and yelling, "Il Tallarico!

We, the Class of 1978, adored him.  May I offer the following for Mr. Tallarico:
Eternal rest grant him, oh Lord.  Let perpetual light shine upon him.  May his soul rest in peace through the mercy of Christ Jesus.  Amen.   (+)

What a touching tribute. He must have been a dear man. As a retired teacher, I can only hope that perhaps one of my former students might hold me in such high regard.
