I have a friend. To protect his identity, let's give him a pseudonym. Like . . . "Moneypenny." You know, just like in James Bond films. Not like there are people who actually have that name, nope. I mean, c'mon . . . who'd have a name like that? Purely made up . . .
Anyway, my friend is a walking disaster about to happen. Anytime he goes somewhere . . . something happens. Take, for example, a recent trip to an unnamed country that shares a border with Germany and Switzerland and has fields of edelweiss. See, I'm working hard to protect Moneypenny's identity.
Back to the story - so he sees a buffalo at the zoo. He wants to take its picture, but the buffalo - as most damn zoo animals do - is hiding in its corner. So he leans over the enclosure - unaware that the THIN WIRE around the enclosure keeps the 3,000 pound animal in, not because buffalo are not particularly bright, but because it has ELECTRICITY coursing through it. Which my friend, Moneypenny (again, only a pseudonym) finds out when his chin touches it. Painfully finds out.
I won't recite other stuff that has happened to him over the years, but now I'm really facing a difficult time. Because I now KNOW how he will meet his end. Go to his maker. Turn in for the dirt nap.
A dead NASA satellite will soon fall to Earth, but the space agency says there is very little chance that a piece of it will hit someone.
AND HE'S IN THE FRIGGIN' PATH!NASA says the 20-year-old satellite will probably fall sometime between late September and October. Pieces of it could land anywhere in the six inhabited continents in a worldwide swath from south of Juneau, Alaska, to just north of the tip of South America. NASA scientists estimate a 1-in-3,200 chance a satellite part could hit someone. Most of it will burn up after entering Earth's atmosphere.
But now I have this horrible, terrible dilemma. Do I tell him or . . . do I start borrowing stuff from him, knowing I won't have to give it back. Because he's got some nice camera stuff and cool electronics . . .
