News today from my former 'nabe, Santa Ana! One of the few Republicans on the city council, Carlos Bustamante, has been placed on administrative leave - from his job with Orange County, and not the city - due to a "sex allegation."
The leave was imposed after the county received an anonymous letter last month detailing allegations of a sexual nature against Bustamante, an executive manager overseeing Public Works’ Facilities and Fleet Services divisions.
Wow, an anonymous letter is all it takes to remove someone from his office? I happen to know that Obama did it with a dog - please, someone turn me into AttackWatch.com but in the meantime, to err on the side of caution, he'll step down and Joe will run the country. Oh, God love me, what am I talking about?
Anyway, the real story is provided by Art Pedroza - who has his new blog New Santa Ana after messy legal stuff with his old blog, Orange Juice - to whom Carlos' alleged mistress sent emails detailing their torrid affaire d'amour:
May 21, 2009: Like I said Art, I am not proud of myself, so I am not excusing myself, but one day we were making out in public, I wish there was someone there to shoot a picture and mail it to his wife!Classy. Now, I am going to guess that this Monica is not your average chola. And why, do you ask? Because I know that Mexican guys cheat and their wives tolerate it; if she were Mexican, why, she'd know Sra. Bustamante would shrug at the news.
See, I can say this without being racist because I can use as my citation the know-all of all-Mexicans, Gustavo Arellano, the celebrated author if the column "Ask a Mexican!", who does service to his raza a step above Geroge Lopez. And Gustavo should know because he once accused me of stealing something from The Drudge Report, telling me he knew because he reads everything on the Internet.
So, according to Gustavo, who would not deny himself as being the source of truth regarding Mexicans, said this in his column of February 8, 2007 regarding the question why immigrant male Mexicans fuck around:
So what if Carlos is first generation in America? The man is just trying to get in touch with his roots - which means a lot of chicas out there dating Mexican-Americans ought to worry about the same, que no?In the landmark 1994 "Sex in America: A Definitive Survey," researchers from the University of Chicago interviewed a random sample of 3,500 Americans and found that 25 percent of married men had strayed from their vows. Latino rates of infidelity were about the same, and lead researcher Edward Laumann told Hispanic Magazine that "he believed the stereotype of Latinos being more unfaithful than other people was overstated." But there weren't enough funds to create a Spanish-language questionnaire, meaning most of the 300 or so Latinos surveyed were pochos and not immigrant Mexican men. In the mother country, though, male infidelity is as Mexican as the tricolor: condoned by the church, tolerated by women, lionized in song.
[Full disclosure: I once dated a Mexican but I went in knowing he was a whore. But, he was good for the laughs, albeit actually lousy in bed. I understand these guys work piecemeal in the field, but slow down, hombre!]
Okay, enough with the joking. I have a problem divorcing a compromise of personal ethics - which this is - from public ehtics. In short, I think if you're willing to cheat on your wife, your ethics in your work are also suspect. This is not to say that someone who cheats is automatically unfit for office, but a history of this will likely run parallel with a hisotry of unethical dealings in the person's public role. It does bother me that an anonymous letter is enough to trigger this action; unless, of course, Carlos was asked about it and admitted it.
Ah, the city council of Santa Ana - if it's not Jew-baiting, it's tit-tilating.

Two words - Bill Clinton

It bothers me to - I would like more spice before I hang a dude.

Someone said that half the C of O managers could be guilty of this - male and female - now what?
Junior,
Bill Clinton is a good example, but because he is a serial cheater. I'll give a pass for one-timers. My own father, of blessed memory, had an affair once, realized the error of his ways, sought counseling with my mother, and when he died in 1995, they were married over 35 years, happily. I was about 6 when this occurred.
as for your last statement - get rid of the lot. Seriously, I do not think it is so outrageous to hold elected officials to a higher standard, do you?
I haven't used my hall pass yet - don't tell the misses.
A new anonymous letter - four more women & another dude:
