The year was 1969 and a local farmer named Max Yasgur agreed to loan a large field that was part of his dairy farm for a musical festival that they were calling "Woodstock."
If you go to Bethel Woods, NY, you can visit the Woodstock museum. Locals, however, will take you to also see Yasgur's farm, as I did here on a beautiful spring day in May 2010.
