No

A proposal to build a $100 million mosque and community center two blocks from the World Trade Center site won unanimous approval from members of a downtown community-board committee last night.

"
I like everything I've heard about this," said Ro Sheffe, chairman of Community Board 1's Financial District Committee.

The 13-story building would occupy the site of the former Burlington Coat Factory on Park Place. A vote by the full board will be held later this month.
The area around the World Trade Center in New York is, by far, commercial, with limited residential. This mosque is being proposed to issue a subtle statement from Islamic jihadists that they have won. If you think otherwise, you have a serious problem with nuance. The symbolism - a minaret tower rising over the ashes of souls killed in the name of Allah - is overwhelming.
I am a native New Yorker. And I am sickened by this.
NO MOSQUE!

I recommend 500 lbs. of carefully placed C-4.

I'm not a New Yorker -- and I'm appalled by this. Unbelievable gall ... if this goes through, the US is doomed. I weep for my American friends ...
