The Archbishop of Canterbury warned today that the election of a lesbian bishop in the United States raises "very serious questions" for the entire Anglican church.
The fragile unity of the church will be further imperilled by Canon Glasspool's election – the second of an openly gay bishop in the US Episcopal Church.
Last night I was watching some TV brain candy - I think it was Entertainment Tonight - and they were looking back at Hollywood's "top ten" scandals of 2009. One was, of course, Carrie Prejean's answer to a loaded question from that obnoxious troll, Perez Hilton. I then turned to the DigiSpouse and asked, "What was it the New York state legislature voted on this past week?"
I do not believe a majority of people want gay marriage, as shown by what happens when the decision is left to the electorate. Now here we have the addition of religious tenets, and thus the issue of homosexuality becomes more volatile. Scripture is rife with condemnations of particualr sexual practices, whether it is homosexuality or even heterosexual adultery. This is not to say damnation is certain - but, as Jesus said, go and sin no more.
And we will sin more. And we will have to seek forgiveness more. But when the tenet is thrown out the window to make the faith more "popular," expect a schism.
Oh, and look who else made the Times!
