A Seattle outlet of the 16,000-store coffee behemoth is being rebranded without visible Starbucks identifiers, as 15th Avenue Coffee and Tea.Two other stores in Starbucks' native Seattle will follow suit, each getting its own name to make it sound more like a neighborhood hangout, less like Big Coffee, a Starbucks official told The Seattle Times on Thursday."The Goliath is coming at me under a new name," said Dan Ollis, owner of Victrola Coffee Roasters, a coffee shop on 15th Avenue in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, about a block-and-a-half from the made-over Starbucks set to open next week.Ollis had noticed teams of Starbucks employees in his shop, making notes and actually placing them in folders marked "Observations." The new store will echo the Victrola policy, for instance, of serving wine and beer alongside its beans.
You know what, people? It's coffee. No, not a grind - just coffee. The independent coffee shop and Starbucks are both guilty of overthinking a very simple concept. Let me come in and ask for a small coffee and maybe offer me dark roast, mild roast, and a decaf. And make sure I can get milk in it, don't always have half-n-half, okay?
Oh, and I want it in a cup that doesn't burn my hand. I don't read any silly-ass "affirmations" or quotes on the cup. Frankly, I don't think Ghandi expected to be immortalized on a piece of refuse tossed by a fake blond with implants driving a Hummer.

Digi...At first, I liked Starbucks when they had their kiosks at the airports (I travel frequently), because at one time, they were about the only place at airports you could get a good cuppa Joe that would give ya a jolt versus that swill other places call 'coffee'.
Then they got to big, to expensive, their coffee began to taste bitter and nasty, and I agree, way to hot.
Now, I rarely frequent them.
GG - they are also my least favorite coffee now. Too bitter - I like strong coffee, just not bitter...
Seattle's Best, Peet's.....yum
For many years I was a "coffee snob" - the kind of prat who insisted on freshly-ground dark roasts brewed with water of a certain temperature and all that crap.
Then something in my brain clicked into place and I realised that, as the character Martin Crane from "Frasier" says, "I'm a regular Joe and I like my joe regular".
Now I buy the giant tubs of Maxwell House or Folgers at Costco (whicherver's cheaper) to make at home and will gladly drink whatever's available while on the road: Tim Horton's, Dunkin, 7-11, gas station coffee, even (although sometimes it's pretty awful).
Starbuck's is always the coffee of last resort ...
The big difference with the 15th Ave and Tea stores is that they are going to serve alcohol (wine and beer) see this article . I remembered hearing it on the radio.
Great, so they are going to produce wide-awake drunks!
What happened to neighborhood diners where Tommy the Greek is flipping burgers in the back while Flo refills your coffee cup, snaps her gum, and asks, "Will there be anything else, hon?"
It's a way to not have the Starbucks name directly associated with that. Not sure it is going to work though.
Guess not, after this article! LOL!
