Happy Birthday, John!

Happy Birthday to the Man, the Myth, the Moneypenny!

Here is proof that the years (forty of them in total today!) can be kind to a person.

Happy birthday to my buddeh, the Rev. John Moneypenny, who remains a shining example of a good friend and a wonderful priest.

True story:

40 years ago today, John was born very prematurely (he was originally due in mid-October). His mother told me that when he was born, he weighed only 3 lbs., 2 oz. and within the first week dipped to about 2 lbs., 12 oz. or so. For 1969, that wasn't good.

So at his birth, the staff at Santa Ana Hospital in the French Park area of Santa Ana summoned a Catholic priest to come and baptize the baby that everyone expected to die.

The priest came running from the nearest church - St. Joseph's, a few blocks away on Civic Center Drive.

36 years later, in November 2005, John - now Father John - was installed as pastor of St. Joseph's, on Civic Center Drive, in Santa Ana.

God had a plan. God always has a plan.

Wow--Father John was very premature--very scary! But he did have God watching out for him--God wanted him baptized--immediately! Good thing you pulled through Father John--so you could grow-up to harrass Digi, oh, I mean keep her on the straight and narrow.

Happy Birthday!
