Digi - When I was in China
(1998 or so) I was so surprised that our tour guides (in their late 20's - middle 30's) did NOT blame the government. They kept repeating how the young man (and others) were warned. And that the govt had no choice. I still remember the feeling of being dumbfounded at their take on this.

20 years, hory clap, I'm feeling old......

DW, they don't blame the Government because to do so labels them Dissident and Enemies of the State, which in Chi-Comm language means.....

"Locked Up and throw away the key"

20 years. I remember 89 very well. The East Germans had stopped trying to capture the people who were breaking across the boarder of Austria. Then everything fell like a pack of cards. And this day with the tank face off. I was THE ONLY person who was late for work that day. I couldn't keep my eyes off the Television. I had a hard time not talking about it all day. Everyone around me seemed relatively indifferent to the momentous occasion it was. [And I was working for a defense contractor at the time.]
