A Roman Catholic priest is suing Bishop Tod Brown, five of his fellow priests and the Diocese of Orange, claiming they have spread lies about him and harmed his reputation.
Michael Nguyen, who became a diocesan priest in 2003, alleges his fellow clergy intentionally made negative and false statements "about his incompetence as a Roman Catholic priest, about his mental condition, about his background and about his suitability for the position of an ordained Roman Catholic priest,'' according to the lawsuit, which was filed Tuesday in Orange County Superior Court.
Back when I was with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture), we would call it when someone did something stupid a "CEM" - "Career Ending Move" (we were big into TLAs - Three Letter Acronyms). I think Fr. Nguyen here just did his own.
The article says he was at St. joseph in Santa Ana, my parish, back in 2003. I vaguely, vaguely remember a young priest who came in around the time of the issue with Fr. Cesar Salazar, but just as quickly left. Michael, we hardly knew ye . . .
I see that this is not the first time Fr. Nguyen pissed off someone - and complained about it. See his blog from 2007, and the comments are illuminating. I am no huge fan of Bishop Brown, but I sense a mighty big sense of self coming from Fr. Nguyen.

I don't know whose side to be on
Joe,
Howzabout bein' on God's side? He is, afterall, the omnicient, omnipotent and prolly knows who is telling the truth better than we blind and deaf humans.
Being Good Friday, itza good day to recall a portion of the dialogue twixt Jesus and Pilate according to St. John:
"...Jesus gave him no answer. Pilate therefore said to him, 'Do you refuse to speak to me? Do you not know that I have the power to release you, and the power to crucify you?' Jesus answered him,'You would have no power over me unless it had been given yu from above; therefore, the one who handed me over you is guilty of a greater sin!' From then on Pilate tried to release him..."
Don't ask me, I'm Jewish.
I know Michael very well, and that boy is has major damage. If anyone should go to trial, it should be Michael... for heresy. A few Holy Weeks ago, he said that Easter would be especially meaningful for him because identified with Jesus, he [Michael] was being persecuted, judged and sentenced by the Bishop and his pastor, both of whom he refered to as Sadduccees.
Michael is a nutjob and a half. I knew the poor guy in the seminary, i worked with him as a colleague in the ministry, and i have known of all the crap he's been trying to pull since HE chose to leave ministry.
One thing this man is certainly guilty of is herostratism.
listen anonymous i know michael personally as well i have sat down and broke bread with him been in his familys'home.I am also a member of st joachim parish i dont recall anyone badmouthing him. he says a excellent sermon and i noticed most parishoners enjoyed mass when the lords words came through him don't u people listen when u r at mass or read the bible often. There is only one person who knows and can truly be the judge the good lord himself. I believe the lords will and lesson have already been put into motion. just wait and see. the truth might not come to light for weeks, months or even years. but watch the players involved their actions speak louder than words.
