Well, I remember reading somewhere, maybe ten years ago or so, that rooms (cough) rented by the hour and decorated in Peanuts themes were very popular in Japan. (ewwww)
More recently I saw a short special on how a lot of Japanese couples are eschewing traditional Shinto weddings and having faux-American weddings, complete with poofy white meringue dress and rent-a-priest. They're not interested in Christianity; they're interested in the movie/TV wedding image.
At least that latter one isn't that dissimilar from a lot of U.S. couples...
Evidently Hello Kitty weddings are all the rage in Japan. You can even find a wedding video on that site that has people dressed up as HK and Dear Daniel walking beside the bride and groom. It's like a cult or something.
