President Obama plans to rescind limits on federal funding for research on human embryonic stem cells by signing an executive order Monday, fulfilling a campaign promise to frustrated supporters of the scientific work. The action has been eagerly anticipated by the thriving community of California stem cell research, centered in the Bay Area, which hopes to generate both a prosperous new industry and an arsenal of weapons against debilitating diseases.
Embryonic stem cell researchers are frustrated by the lack of federal funding? That's odd - because if embryonic stell cells were the cure-all as they are touted to be, you would think there would be venture capitalists braking down the doors to fund the research.
I say, any scientific research that requires federal funding is suspect from the get go . . . brave new world, indeed.
Oh, and at least that's one campaign promise Obama is holding to - what about the one on earmarks?

What I have never understand is this: If stem cells offer such a promise to cure diseases, why are only embryonic ones sought? Why not cord blood and dermatologic stem cells, which can be made into anything?
