Today I wore my new "McCain/Palin" t-shirt to my daughter's class' bake sale at St. Joseph Church. The first mother who saw me looked at the shirt and said simply, "Glad to see there are more of us."
However, after the 11:00 Mass, one long-time parishioner who knows me looked at the t-shirt and said, "You're kidding, right?" I said simply, "No, I'm not." She looked at me incredulously and said, "No, I really mean it, tell me you're joking." I handed her donut to her, smiled, and said, "That will be fifty cents, Bobbie."
And another mother asked me, "Haven't you heard about her (they can't bring themselves to say Sarah Palin's name) second bridge to no where?" I sighed. "No, tell me about it."
"Well, she is building a bridge that will connect her town of Wasilla to a town with only a 100 people!" she crowed.
"And she is doing this as governor?", I asked.
"No," said this woman, "she's doing it as mayor of Wasilla."
"But she hasn't been mayor of Wasilla for quite some time."
"Wait, wait," she said, pulling out her PDA, "I can show it to you on the Internet."
I walked away. She never did show me the story. I think she meant this.
