Back from New Jersey . . . Mom physically doing well, although she now requires oxygen for nighttime sleep to keep her from literally drowning. But still maintaining an upbeat attitude. I told her that people were praying on her behalf to St. Joseph for a peaceful death and she was grateful and happy to hear that.
I have other concerns, though. Mom is spending her final days - well, at least those days before she goes into a hospice, which I think is inevitable - with my older sister. Cassie is a very disturbed woman and I think she will take advantage of my mother financially, as she has done before. Cassie is also very hostile to me and has already made attempts to keep me and our younger brother cut off from Mom. How hostile? Last friday, Mom could not leave the house because of a flare-up with her cellulitis and so I visited with her at my sister's house. Cassie did not say a word to me but the tension was thick. Sitting down for lunch with my mother, my sister made sure I saw her calendar, where it was marked for that day in big letters, "C**T COMING."
My brother said, "What are you going to do?" So I wrote underneath it: May Jesus bless you and your house. My mother has promised me I will be the one to dispose of her ashes, which I am adamant about since my sister has already announced that she plans to keep "her share" on her Wiccan altar in her bedroom.
