Love thy enemy.
I went to a noontime Mass today and was left wanting after the homily. I don't think it is enough - possibly even irresponsible - to say simply, "Boy, Jesus gave us a hard one to follow, didn't He?" I think I would have wanted to hear how it is we are to conduct ourselves in the face of such evil as seen seven years ago. And oddly enough, the priest read from the writing of a saint about the topic of loving our enemies, which began with a list of human "vices" - drinking, feasting, carousing . . . and here the priest gave special emphasis to the word hunting before going on. But the homily was simply reiterating loving our enemies and not acting as how our enemy acts towards us.
