Say Cheese!

From The OC's OC Weekly, the local alternative newspaper that you can pick up free in any coffee joint in the county:
An anti-abortion activist taking photographs outside a controversial Santa Ana family planning clinic suffered minor injuries Saturday afternoon after being attacked by a physician who obviously did not appreciate having his picture taken.

According to Santa Ana Police records, Howard Tendai Pfpajena, 66, was arrested on suspicion of assault and battery about 12:30 p.m. near Fourth and Sycamore streets. Online Christian and pro-life news services that earlier today reported [here and here] on the incident had “Pfupajena” as the spelling of the suspect's last name and claimed he is a physician at Clinica Medica Para La Mujer at 120 W 5th St., which is about a half block from where the suspect was arrested.
After the man exited the clinic, Nissen snapped a shot before the jacket could be used as a cover again. The man then got in his car, and Nissen shot more photos. “The doctor had apparently had enough,” Sullenger said. “He started to drive off, but then he got out of his car, demanded the camera, and said Tim had no right to take his photo. Tim did not want give it to him, so he started back pedaling as the guy was pushing and grabbing at his camera. Tim fell over backwards and hit his head on a parking meter pole. It really jacked up his back. He lost control of his camera, his knuckles were all scraped.”

She claimed the man stomped on the camera in an attempt to break it. When Nissen retrieved his camera, “that's when the guy got him on ground, put his knee on his throat and started choking him," Sullenger said. "Tim thought, 'This guy could actually kill me.'”
I know the location of Clinica Medica Para La Mujer. It's on the corner of 5th and Main in downtown Santa Ana, right across the street from Jack in the Box. I did not realize that it is an abortion clinic, but I am glad to know that now, so I can offer a prayer everytime I pass it - it's about three blocks down and over from St. Joseph's Church.
It always pays to have its windows decorated en espanol for whatever holiday has come - you know, like ¡Feliz Dia de las Madres! And a large sign is always prominent - Examen de Embarazo Gratis. That's really sweet, at least they subsidize the first step in the genocide.
One poster - Kelly Jones - said in response to a pro-life poster:
Considering that abortion-performing doctors' pictures were frequently shared and circulated by people whose idea of being "pro-life" included, mysteriously, killing doctors who performed abortions, I think the "victim" here is being disingenuous at best. And I'm sure it's deep concern for women and their health that made him take pics there, just like those nice folks who care so much about us not getting venereal diseases that they take pictures of sex-shop patrons. Jimbo, taking a choice you will
never have to make away from a woman is not feminist. Be "pro-life" all you like, but keep your laws off our bodies.
I had to answer:
Kelly Jones said: "Jimbo, taking a choice you will never have to make away from a woman is not feminist. Be 'pro-life' all you like, but keep your laws off our bodies." An issue I have with pro-choice folks, especially females, is the notion that pregnancy is solely a "female thing." It's not and that attitude only serves to devalue the role of fathers in our society. Perhaps a man's retort to Ms. Kelly's last statement could be, "Keep your forceps off our child. "

Well, I hate my picture taken also, but do not react quite as violently as did the doctor. Hey, the guy kills babies, does not surprise me that violence is not a part of his daily walk of life.

I will say here what I said on other blogs about this, which is that while I will not defend a physical assault, I can appreciate that a doctor who performs abortions might not want his picture taken, especially by a stranger.

Ignoring the poster's "choice" rhetoric, she has one good point: I do remember the "Nuremberg Files" web site from about ten years ago, which has since (mercifully) been shut down. The one where they posted photos, home and work addresses, spouse's and children's names and ages, Social Security numbers, etc, and whenever a doctor got shot his or her name would be struck through but left online? That web site ended up being a huge PR coup for "choicers", because it took away lifers' claim to the moral high ground in the public eye.

Like I said, the doctor was flat out wrong to assault the guy; and contrary to what "Kelly" said there's no question here who the "victim" is - provided the photographer wasn't breaking any laws, it seems pretty cut and dried.

But I really liked your response. "Keep your forceps off our child" - that should be the next bumper sticker...
