Look at half the stuff the left comes up with insulting/lampooning Condoleeza Rice, Clarence Thomas, etc. and Obama should realize this is the price one pays in public life.
Satire is, by its nature, often tasteless and offensive, especially if taken literally. Which is one reason why I've started to sour on it in recent months and years - the more I try to focus on charity, the less I like satire (which is sort of sad, because I was weaned on it).
That said, the Obamas would do well to thicken their skins if they want to stay in public life. Seems like every time anyone says "boo" about one of them, you get a Very Serious Talking-To about how you have grievously wounded them.
The magazine's explanation sounds eminently plausible to me. Get over yourself, Senator. Is this how you're going to negotiate with Ahmadinejad? Tell him that he's been over the line, and give him your disappointed face?
I thought it was hillarious myself, but then again i'm a huge fan of satire, I might have drawn something worse (if I actually could draw, thank goondness for Free Body Diagrams, otherwise, I would be horrible, lol)
It seems Obama is not amused by this lampoon on the cover of The New Yorker.
