Hey, hey, hey! It's August 1st, so in honor of someone who was born 39 years ago today and had his formative years in the 1980's, we're going back in time!
Here's the scoop - I heard that someone really, really wanted to have "Kyrie" by Mr. Mister played at his ordination, but the Bishop just wouldn't approve. Sad. Tragic. I think His Grace also nixed the pink polo shirt with the turned-up collar and skinny leather tie under the alb, too.
So I think we need a couple of versions of "Kyrie" for today's Obscure Music Friday . . .
Artist: Dionne Warwick
Why I Like This Version: It's about as fun as Frank Sinatra doing "Comfortably Numb." Actually, that would be friggin' awesome. But not only do we have a classic singer having lost her way back to San Jose, but doing it on the Solid Gold TV program - now THAT was the 80's!
Artist: Clay Aiken
Why I Like This Version: Because Clay is the heir apparent to the cheesiness of the 80's - and his fey little dancing just makes you know that somewhere in Ohio a 55-year-old woman is having a hot flash watching it.
Song: Carry a Laser
Artist: The Baum Squad
Why I Like This Version: Because the first time I heard this song, I wondered what the heck they were singing - I didn't believe it was "Kyrie eleison" and what the hay, "carry a laser" sounds close enough.

Happy Birthday, Centavo Malo!
