A Splendid Find at Petsmart

While shopping today at Petsmart, I came across a delightful item. It was a bell that attaches to a dog's collar to track your dog when he or she is in the field. And what do you know - the sound it made was just like the same clear, sweet, high-pitched ring of an altar bell! Serendipity!

I asked my friend standing next to me, "What do you think, Dante?"

He did not answer but his eyes sparkled and I felt that bond between Man and Canine that has existed since the time we lived together in caves.

"Yes, yes," I said, "I think you need a new toy, too. How about this and that big, meaty knucklebone over in Aisle Two?"

Dante's stump of a tail wagged furiously. By the time I got back to the rectory, alas, Dante's owner had stepped out for lunch - no doubt driving to procure another greasy, artery-blocking hamburger from a local fast food franchise. Shame, but I am sure he will be as delighted as I was to come home and hear the sweet chimes fill the air as his dog prances about.
It might even touch a nostalgic place in his heart for those bells he so earnestly rung as an altar boy in his youth . . .

ROTFL!!!!! Only a dog lover knows how if you are gone from their sight for only even 10 minutes they will caper about as if you had been off backpacking in the himilayas for two years. "Where WERE you????? Why didn't you take ME???!?!? Kiss me. Hug Me. Pet Me. Let ME Crawl Up Your Armpit Don't Ever Leave Me Like That Again."

It will sound like an 18 alarm fire has gone off!!!

[So help me, it's probably a good thing no human will ever miss you as much as your dog does -- you'd never leave the house.]

Good boy, Dante! :-)

Well, when Dante starts wearing the bell, his owner will be soooo pleased that I'm sure that St. Joseph will be getting altar bells soon! Very good digi!

Considering the bell is designed to be heard across several acres, I am sure it will please his owner. I also have a hunch that I might get a Lectionary thrown at me today, too. We will see what happens at the 11:00 Mass.

Well, digi, do you have a dent in your head from the flying lectionary?

No, but God bless Fr. John Moneypenny for keeping me from having a heart attack with his text messages before the winning pass was thrown at 35 seconds left in the game!

Ah, but revenge is a dish best eaten cold, so I had still better watch it. Fr. Mike caught my eye on the way out and gave me a big, evil grin. Given he's half Irish and half Italian (or, as I tell him, half Gaelic and half garlic but 100% Catholic), I better watch my back! ;-)
