About two months ago. my kids and I visited a local taekwando studio, as both had expressed an interest in martial arts. I signed them up for Tuesday and Thursday night classes but once they saw a couple of other parents attending the cklass with their spawn, the pressure was on me to sign up as well. So I did. And I added for myself (no kids allowed) a "Friday-night-getaway" class in hapkido.
I checked online and saw that there is no "official" saint of taekwando. However, I have sought the intercession of St. Andrew Kim Taegon. The son of Korean nobility, it is quite likely that in the 1800's he was trained in some type of martial arts, which may well be the forerunner of modern-day taekwando and hapkido. He was the first ordained priest in Korea and a martyr for the faith.
Here is my prayer to him:
Holy Father Andrew Kim Taegon, I ask you, my brother, to pray for me. Help me gain the strength and discipline to do well in my training, just as you showed in your resolve and bravery in bringing the Church to Korea. Help me to master the techniques of tawkwando and hapkido, all the while dedicating them to God, whom Whom such ability comes. I ask this, as with all things, through Christ, Our Lord. Amen. (+)
