Josie's breeder told me on Friday when I picked up the pup that she had been asked by a friend who works with autistic children to bring her dogs over to meet the kids. Kim (the breeder) said she had never done this before and when I called her the next day to give her an update on Josie, she related that the evening went WONDERFULLY. True to form, the kids opened up to the dogs, where they cannot to other humans. She sent me these pictures.
I have always been a dog person and maybe it is because unlike any other domestic animal, dogs chose to join us in the cave millions of years ago. I am always cheered by stories of how dogs will work to help humans, whether it is as an assistance dog for a handicapped person or a police dog that would take the bullet in the line of work without fear. Dogs are amazing animals, no doubt, and mankind is better for their presence in our lives.
