Obscure Music Friday

Two-Fer Friday!!! Since the first of February falls fair on a Friday - and I love the alliteration of saying that - here are two musical obscurities.

Song: Remind Me

Artist: Royksopp

Why I Like It: If you are wondering where you have heard this song before, yes, it's the music that is playing as the caveman passes by the advertisement on the people mover at the airport in the Geico commercial. I spent two years living in Switzerland and this reminds me of the Europop that played on the radios there. A hypnotic, but soothing, melody.

Song: Worlds Apart
Artist: Cock Robin
Why I Like It: Speaking of my time in Switzerland, one of my American colleagues introduced me to this band which was widely popular in Europe although they hailed locally from Los Angeles. The video itself sucks, but the song is great and is off their album, "First Love, Last Rites." I have always loved the vocals by the male singer, Peter Kingsbery. Their stuff is pretty hard to find now, but worth it if you happen to chance upon it.

I was working for Andersen Consulting at the time, and our client was a firm called Severin Montres, who had the contract with Gucci to design, make and market Gucci watches. I was part of a team installing manufacturing software on an IBM AS 400. Ilived in a bilingual city - call it Bienne in French or Biel in German.

An AS 400? Talk about the Stone AGE, that computer was 1 step above an abacus.
