Hat tip - and apologies - to Gem of the Ocean for the title of this post.
No greater Love hath a Man for his godly Wife, when he giveth up the ghoste
and agrees to Acquire a Hound for his Lady Love.

obscure 13th-century mystic
After much cajoling, whining, pleading, and finally smacking upside the head, the Digihusband relented and agreed I could have as my Christmas present a new puppy. And after a search, I found just the one - a female tri-colored Pembroke Welsh Corgi, pictured above (she's the one in the middle).
Now comes the decision - what to name her? I have always joked that as an attorney I should name a female dog "Sue." But I was thinking more of a Celtic name - as corgyn (yes, that is the proper Welsh plural form) are wee Celtic dogs. But then, she was also born on November 2nd, which this year was All Souls Day or Dia de los Muertos - maybe "Ana?"
I need suggestions - what would you name a corgi?
And no, "Elizabeth" is not in the running, despite the affinity that English monarch has for these dogs.
BTW, the puppy is coming from Poso Creek Puppies in central California. Please visit their webiste to learn more about this breed.

How about in-corgi-able?
Ya-HOO!!! So Lillibet is out then?
Well, she's a girl dog, so Mohamed is out... and she will be around in time for Christmas (8 weeks weaning is about right -- when you bring her home, take a towel along with you and rub the smell of her mom and litter mates on it and bring that home with you - the doggie will be comforted by the familiar smell when she's in new surroundings.
Anna is nice - have you looked at a typical list of Welsh names? We've tended to give our pets "people names" in this house too.

[Yea!!! your hubby]\!]
Ok, so we adopted a stray and turned her into our law office cat...and named her Judi. (Get it?) My partner hated it but I was expecting and he was too scared of me to veto it. :)
Why not go with the legal female classics -- Portia?
Enjoy her, she's adorable.
Kit
You sure picked the cutest one. I've always given my furred friends people names - except for the cat that was named Mouse.
Right now I have Elle' and Sophie the dogs and Angela and Erica the cats.
Why not name him after your saint for the year??
Ooh, I like Portia...
I was thinking along the lines of Guinevere, since the only corgi I've known personally was named Arthur. We almost always do people names in my family too. A few samples from our family pet lineage:
- MacDuff (a collie)
- DJ (a Brittany spaniel; not our choice of name)
- Kiki (an English cocker; her original name was Kitty, so we tried to find a more acceptable "K" name)
- Buddy (a cat)
- Grady (a cat)
- Charlie (a cat)
- Sadie (a border collie)
- Kit (a mutt)
- Mickey (a cockapoo)
I find mining Shakespeare to be helpful. Ol' Will was chock-full of interesting names. :-)
I like Portia - I am definitely thinking that one over. Sadly, so many people would hear that and believe I have an affinity for German cars.
For the Celtic side, I also thought of Boadicea, or the Gaelic form which is Boudiga. But then, how to shorten it - Bodie?
Mohammed may be out, what about Fatima (Mohammed's daughter as well as that Portugal place...)
True...if you go with Portia, be prepared to do a lot of clarification in casual conversations.
My concern about the other name you propose is that it's so reminiscent of "bodega". Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you, unless you've watched Half Baked a time or two too many...
I quite like Lillibet, but then, I'm much more a fan of this Queen Elizabeth than I am of the first Queen Elizabeth. (And I just think it's a cute name.)
Does all this mean Dante is no longer going to have his days at the dog park with Auntie Steph?
No, no, Dante will still have his time at the dog park with Auntie Steph. In fact, it will be awhile before the pup will be able to go to the dog park, since she will need to have all of her shots.
What I will do is arrange a "play date" with Dante to get him used to the idea that eventually dog park means two canines in the back of Auntie Steph's car. I don't think Dante will be a problem, though. He is not an aggressive dog and I think he will welcome the company.
Of couyrse, the new pup will be fixed.
Digger sounds more masculine but it kinda goes with the Digifamily...
I've had or liked dogs named...
Honeybear
Tuna
Tippy
Molly
